Sue Poist
Hi, my name is Sue Poist. I live in new Oxford with my husband Jim. We've been married for 37 years. We have 2 children and 3 grandchildren. I am a secretary at a Catholic school. I volunteer at 2 local fire companies and am a co-facilitator of the SOS (Survivors of Suicide) Group of Hanover.
The day of Saturday, June 14, 2003, changed my life. My son of 23 years, completed suicide. From the day he died, I decided I needed to do something positive to help me with this action. Soon did I realize, that faith in the action was exactly what I needed.
One thing I did know, was that I needed to talk about my son. I needed to try to help change the stigma that existed about suicide. Kris was our son who would do anything to help someone else. He was a loving person with quite the sense of humor. I needed to continue to talk about him and what happened.
As the holidays grew closer, the need kept getting stronger. I organized a Remembrance Service, two weeks after Thanksgiving and two weeks before Christmas, to remember those who have died from suicide. This will be the 11th year for the service.
And so my journey continues. The need continues to grow, and now I am a member of the Hanover Journey of Hope. We sponsor a walk to offer to those who have someone who died from suicide and/or suicide prevention.
JUST KNOW- YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
